Welcome to the home of The Cuba Press, and our imprints: Ahoy! and Mākaro Press.
The Cuba Press is a publisher of fiction, memoirs, biographies, creative non-fiction, poetry, children’s books and literary anthologies in Pōneke, Aotearoa New Zealand. Ahoy! is our children’s imprint.
The Cuba Press was founded in Wellington’s vibrant Cuba Quarter in 2018, a place of cafes, restaurants, music venues, theatres and publishers. It is a hybrid publisher, which means we have a number of ways of funding our books outside of the traditional publishing model. Find out more here. For submissions, go here.
Mākaro Press is an imprint of The Cuba Press and works independently to produce award-winning literary fiction. It was named after the harbour island across the water from where the press began in 2013. Mākaro is said to be one of the nieces of the great Polynesian explorer Kupe, who travelled with him from Hawaiki to New Zealand in the tenth century.
Mākaro Press is a traditional publisher. Find out more here. For submissions, go here.
